Unlike critical illness cover which is generally paid as a lump sum, income protection is paid out monthly (or on a regular basis) and replaces part of your income. Referred to as Long Term Income Protection, payments can support you until you can start working again, reach the end of the policy term or until you retire – whichever is most relevant to your circumstances.
